The director of our television ministry,
Lois Elder
(a parishioner) brings to Saint Mary of Mercy her extensive broadcast background from KDKA Radio and TV, as well as
award-winning work in the local communications community as a writer/producer and media director. She is the
original lay consultant for Bishop Donald Wuerl’s program, “The Teaching of Christ.”
The technical advisor for our television ministry is
John Cochran.
John’s many years in local television (WQED-TV, WPXI-TV and KDKA-TV) as an award-winning videographer, director and
editor, provide the engineering skills necessary to keep our operation running.
Our televised Mass is an effective means of
bringing catechesis to those in nursing homes and hospitals and to those who have drifted away from the church or
need more instruction.
Saint Mary of Mercy has a long history of leading evangelization efforts in the city and surrounding area. For many
years, the Mercy Confraternity was a base of catechetical instruction, reaching some 20 mission churches. The
practice continued until around 1950.
