RED DOOR PROGRAM

…helping all God’s children wherever they may be is a primary goal of Saint Mary of Mercy Parish.  Being a place of spiritual respite for so many people who live, work, shop, go to school and who are homeless is a very important work of the parish. The Red Door Program as well as the Walk-in Ministry is a way for us to meet God’s children wherever they may be.

Red Door Program

Saint Mary of Mercy Church, which is located in the heart of  downtown Pittsburgh, provides several kinds of assistance to people in need. The "oldest" of Saint Mary's services is the Red Door Program which began during the Great Depression. This program provides a bag lunch, Monday through Saturday to more than 100 persons each day. The program is underwritten by Saint Mary of Mercy Church through various contributions made directly to the Red Door.

The primary purpose of this program is concern for the immediate needs of the people, namely, to provide food for the hungry and homeless.
